Release Date: 15.08.2025

The second release from Berlin-based project KLOTZ WENZEL VETHAKE consists of elements from a concert that took place on the 7th of February 2025. The three protagonists celebrate their version of Punk, Free Jazz and Noise Drone. A maelstrom of Saxophone, Electric Cello and Bowed Bass drags the listener into an agitated yet hypnotic soundscape.

Their creative connection leads back to 2017, when Klotz did release the debut of Slutty Clowns, a project of Wenzel and Vethake, on his label Loft Editions. Later on Vethake and Klotz collaborated on the Dialog album by Sicker Man aka.Tobias Vethake and also released two tapes as Manuel Klotz & Sicker Man. Throughout the years all three have discovered their similar passion for music by Ornette Coleman, Caspar Brötzmann and Cecil Taylor.

In 2022 the idea came up, to create something with a similar attitude, but different means and structures.

KLOTZ WENZEL VETHAKE create a musical utopia, music devoid of any ego or leadership.

This is a project consisting of 3 individuals, listening extensively to each other and unifying in noise and freedom.

Manuel Klotz: Saxophone, Tapeloops, Voice, Sampler //

Karla Wenzel: Bass, Noise Box, Synthesizer, Voice, Drums //

Tobias Vethake: Electric Cello, Drums //

Manuel Klotz lives and works in Berlin. After studying sound and photo art in Braunschweig (with Dörte Eißfeldt and Ulrich Eller), the musician and artist ended up in Berlin. In addition to his photographic work, he publishes under various synonyms and in different constellations in the experimental music scene. He has been running a small cassette label for almost 5 years and performs regularly. His sound design focus lies between improvised noise/drone surfaces and free jazz collages. Saxophone, synthesizer, voice, no-input mixer, field recording and electronic effects.

Karla Wenzel is a singer and autodidactic player of lost and found instruments and toys. After being the singer of the legendary Berlin off-swing band Bohemian Crystal and working as a touring and studio musician for international artists, she started recording and releasing her own material, combining classical songwriting and hypnagogic pop with soundscapes and field recordings. She has been writing and producing music for film, art performances and live radio plays as well as being part of various bands and musical projects of her own.

Tobias Vethake’s main instrument and focal point of his artistic creation is the electric cello, which he processes and modulates to transfer his artistic visions into reality. Since 2004 he has been composing music for film, theatre, radio plays, installations and performance art and releasing numerous albums of his various musical projects on his own label blankrecords. He has been collaborating with international artists and ensembles, as well as pursuing his own sonic explorations by experimenting with alternative performance spaces and different approaches to performance practice itself.
